Examples of Proposed Research Centers and Institutes

DEPRESSION + ANXIETY

Depression and anxiety are among the leading causes of disability worldwide. Depressive disorders affect one in four women and one in six men. UCLA clinical psychology faculty are leading the way in developing better predictive tools, early interventions and personalized treatments that will improve people’s lives.

OUR SOCIAL NATURE

The need to connect socially with others is as basic as our need for food, water and shelter. UCLA social psychology faculty are pioneering the scientific study of social relationships and their impact on our physical and emotional well-being. They are advancing knowledge about social media, healthy relationships and the effects of external stressors such as economic adversity.

SUBSTANCE ABUSE + ADDICTION

In light of the global opioid addiction epidemic, the quest to fully understand substance abuse disorders has taken on a new urgency. Integrating clinical psychology, pharmacology and neuroscience, UCLA psychologists are developing new preventive approaches and more cost-effective treatments.
